Euphoria is a look into every generations teenage experience. This one just happens to be Gen Z focused and shows how this gen is dealing with the fact that social media, porn, and the internet is always at their disposal for good and bad. What I like about it is how you get each characters perspective, specifically through flashbacks of their lives, which in turn makes you realize why they did what they did in pivotal moments. It reminds me of a mix between Fast Times at Ridgemont High, Kids, and the British show Skins. Lots of sex, violence, and intimate moments that make you think WTF, yet so real and raw. Euphoria moves fast and there’s never a dull moment. Mark my words this show has some new actors that have that “it” factor and will def become famous. Kat played by Barbie Ferreira is an effing star, not to mention Sydney Sweeney and Jacob Elordi, who play Cassie and Nate, invoke strong emotions when playing with some deep and heavy material. Absolutely addicted and love it! Do you need a new show to watch? Do you want something totally different and kinda weird, yet super enthralling. Look no further because Amazon Prime TV just released Good Omens, based on Neil Gaiman and Terry Pratchett’s book of the same name. The show is so different from anything that is currently on TV. It’s about two angels, one good and one bad, and how they come together to conquer the eleven-year old antichrist who is now on Earth. The problem is the two angels are actually pretty good friends and they end up using their powers for both good and evil to create a story about the impending Armageddon to tell a tale which weaves in Biblical references, tons of humor, witchcraft, and lots of drama. It is narrated by God (aka Frances McDormand) and we see the tale of good and evil unfold before our eyes. I found it very entertaining and laughed my ass off from beginning to end. David Tennant and Michael Sheen play off each other wonderfully and should make more movies and shows together. The show is of epic proportions and so well done. Highly suggest if you are a fan of fantasy and off beat dramas. My next #millenialmoviemonday is Steven Speilberg’s 1975 hit movie Jaws. If you haven’t seen it, then you have probably living under a rock and continue to frolic on the beach with no care at all. Did you know that when this movie came out it actually stopped people from going to the beach? The sheer magnitude of what this movie did to audiences was unprecedented and it changed how we see movies. You’re probably wondering, why recommend a movie about a shark, albeit one that looks mechanical and a bit flimsy. Well it really has nothing to do with seeing the actual shark, it’s more about the build-up and knowledge of the imminent danger that is about to leap out of the water and maybe kill one of the characters right in front of our eyes. The pure genius of Spielberg is shown in this film and his cinematic presence was still raw, yet it was still effing phenomenal. Not to mention, the music was absolutely iconic. Now slowly step away from the sand, and go watch it. Did you love Jaws? I am starting a new feature on the IG, #millenialmoviemonday, where I will suggest a movie for all my millennial and gen z’ers out there to watch. I keep finding that when I ask a lot of my younger friends, if they have seen this or that movie, 9 times out of 10, the answer is no. Insert sad face. My first pick is an easy watch and recommendation, John Hughes’ 1985 classic teenage film, The Breakfast Club. A film that bridges the gap between all social groups in high school and features everyone from the jocks, to the nerds, to the pretty girl who seems to have it all, the weirdo, and the rebels of course. All faced with detention for their own reasons. They come together and get to know each other, and in the end realize they’re not that different from one another. What makes this movie so great, is that the characters are not one dimensional dim-witted teenage kids. Instead, they are flawed, have issues, and they realize that authority figures don’t know it all, as we are usually taught at that age. I’ve been following this season of Project Runway like a hawk and now feel super invested in the top three contestants. I loved that Bravo took them to meet Diane Von Furstenberg, who truly inspired and shook them up with her kind words 😱. The final fashion shows were jaw dropping and amazing! Garo’s work had some missteps, but his vision was there. Hester showed the world that she can become a brand, from clothes, to accessories, to even makeup. I think she can do it all. And lastly Sebastian who WON the whole damn thing. From housemaid to winner, his collection was stunning, precise, and completely high-fashion. What I love about this season is that there are so many possibilities for all the contestants, social media will allow the world to see their work and hopefully turn them into global brands.
