When a group of middle-aged women get together to reminisce and rebuild their friendship over lots and lots of wine, what ensues is drama, laughter, and a good amount of tears. Directed by and starring Amy Poelher, amongst other SNL heavy weights, Wine Country, is a funny and heartfelt comedy that will tug at your heartstrings, yet leave you completely unfulfilled. I loved the actresses in it and it had its funny moments, Tina Fey was hands down the best part, but it was lacking substance. With such a stellar cast, it could have been BEYOND funny and a must-see film. Instead, it’s a put it on while you scroll through Instagram kinda flick 🤷🏽‍♀️. Did you ever see the series finale of Six Feet Under? It was satisfying, realistic, and tied up everything with each single character. It is the barometer by which I judge all endings. Did Game of Thrones live up to it? HELL TO THE NO! Jon being a Targareyan was a huge freaking deal and it wasn’t even mentioned at the end. Excuse me? He killed Dany because everyone told him to, all the people who said he should be the rightful king didn’t even speak up for him or tell the world his true identity 😒. His bravery, his resiliency, was all to send him back to the wall? The white walkers died off, Cersei was killed with a brick, and now the world goes on? Arya became one of the faceless fighters and endured so much, for what? Dragons living in Westeros is a huge deal, let me emphasize HUGE, yet Drogon flew away and was never seen again 🙄. Everything that was supposed to be insurmountably difficult to kill or win over was defeated in minutes? This will go down as one of the worst endings in TV history. I’m still sad and devastated over Miss Vanjie not making it to the finale. How sad was that? 😭 I was really rooting for her, but maybe she’s been in her head too much and the pressure of the competition I am sure is a lot on them. Regardless, she is a star! Crown or no crown. I definitely can see her on the next All Star race. Our final four though are great ladies and all of them deserve to be in the top. The question is who is going to take the crown. One of my guilty pleasures in life is the Real Housewives franchise on Bravo. Aside from NYC, my other fave is the Beverly Hills crew. Let’s talk about the season 9 for a sec. For one, I am so over the Dorit and Lisa dog situation. Can someone tell me if all of that is even real? Two, loving Denise Richards, she seems real and unencumbered by her infamous past. And lastly, I am enjoying Camille and the way she talks dirt about everyone so openly, she is really creating some good drama for the show. It’s probably all fake, but who cares, it’s reality TV and it needs to be entertaining. Who is your favorite Beverly Hills persona? Or are you compels over them? The 72nd annual Cannes Film Festival kicked off yesterday and the lineup for this year’s movies looks great. Cannes is known for opulent and fashionable red carpet arrivals, and is always a precursor for future Oscar contenders. If you don’t know, at the end of the festival the Palme d’Or is given out for the best movie, and you can bet that many times that movie ends up going on to win lots of American film awards. Think Taxi Driver, ‪Apocalypse Now‬, and ‪Pulp Fiction‬ to name a few. Another aspect of Cannes that I love, is that a lot of independent movies are shown, the ones which typically don’t get a lot of love in the states, so it’s good for them to get their name out there and for the world to watch. Some of the big movies that I am excited to see that will debut at Cannes are, Once Upon a Time in Hollywood, The Dead Don’t Die, The Lighthouse, Pain and Glory, Little Joe, Rocketman, and Frankie. Greta Gerwig’s remake of Little Women was supposed to screen at Cannes, but it’s behind schedule. Which is disappointing because that would probably be the most interesting to see, considering she is coming off of the Lady Bird high, and we are all curious to see if she can continue her tremendous artistic vision. Vice is based on the life and rise of Dick Cheney’s political career. In his early life, he got kicked out of Yale and was somewhat of a loose cannon. His wife Lynne, kicked his ass into gear and pushed him to find a new career. Cheney was able to use his persuasive and manipulation skills to work in the White House and to eventually make it as Vice President. Written and directed by Adam McKay, it has his style and feeling, fast paced yet chock full of facts and data. Which can sometimes be good or bad 🙈. I actually hated the Big Short, but I could deal with his way of presenting material in this film. Christian Bale transformed himself into Cheney and his performance was jaw dropping. Amy Adams as his wife, played the woman who has unwavering support for her husband and will stand by him at all costs. She’s almost a creepy Stepford wife 👩🏼. Steve Carell was brilliant as Donald Rumsfeld and could be one of his best roles yet. This movie is heavy on politics, so you definitely have to be in a mood to watch it. How much of all this is true to history, well that we have to leave to history books because it is obvious that McKay was not a Cheney fan. Overall, good movie, good cast, recommend to those who have been on the fence to watch it or who like political dramas.
