November TV Favorites

November is already upon us friends, what the hell is going on, time is flying so fast and before you know it the New Year will be here! This past month was quite lazy for me, I have been feeling as I mentioned before so overwhelmed with everything that November was rather drab. I caught up on reading a lot, literally immersing myself and I will mention the books as a fave below, plus I want to prove to you guys that I just don’t watch TV all day because I swear I do other things! I just have a really on point schedule with my shows and my husband is worse than me and he pushes me to finish and binge watch. Yes, I just totally did that female thing and blamed him (haha). How were your holidays? Do tell! And for everyone else around the world, I commend you for saving the lives of so many turkeys out there.

Oh yes, I wanted to mention, I have a cousin Sebastian, who just started on WordPress. His blog is MyMovieVerse, so please check  him out and support another movie lover.

Resurrection: Season 2 (ABC)
Not sure if anyone else out there is watching this show, so if you are I would love to discuss. I also hope that other people are watching because I do not want this to get cancelled. I need to know how it all ends. A quick synopsis if you don’t know, this show is centered on the town of Arcadia, Missouri, where people who were once dead, have returned home. They seem to be alive and well, they know who they are and how they died, but why they have returned they do not know. Can you imagine a dead ex-gf who killed herself coming back to town? Umm hello, mood spoiler for your current gf and yes that happened on the show. What about that annoying brother or mother in your life who always nagged at you, yup they come back too.

tumblr_ndqsk2fmqL1sqop32o1_500

Season 2 is focused again on going even deeper into the “returned,” some town’s folk hate these returned people and think they are part of an evil scheme and some are very content with their new found family members and friends. The problem this season is that the returned are getting oddly sick. The main character Maggie Langston (Devin Kelley), is the town doctor and is trying to investigate what is going on with these people, and is very sympathetic towards them and their plight. Agent Bellamy (Omar Epps) is also charged with figuring out what to do with these returned individuals and we are finding out he has many secrets of his own. The doctor’s father and town sheriff, Fred Langston (Matt Craven), is also on the case and has many issues because not only has his mother returned, but also the wife who was cheating on him. So much is going on with different families and it is pretty fun to watch. There are many familiar actors on here like Frances Fisher, Kurtwood Smith (that 70’s show dad), Michelle Fairley (Stark momma), and they add a good mix to the show. This is no HBO created drama, but it is nonetheless entertaining.  If you get a chance you can catch season 1 on Netflix right now.

I think I like this version… haha.

Top Chef: Season 12 – Boston (Bravo)
Anyone that reads my blog knows I love my Bravo shows. Please Andy Cohen let me work for you! My dream would be to be on his Watch What Happens Live show and dish about all current events, gossip and talk about bitchy stuff and hot guys because that is just the kind of stuff I love. Anyhow, I have been a fan of the Top Chef series since the beginning; in fact one of my favorite lines ever came from Season 1, when Dave Martin yelled at Tiffany Faison and said, “I’m not your bitch, BITCH.” There are so many days I want to say that to people (haha).

t1bshirt

Season 12 brings our contestants to Boston and again we have the same competitions as usual, but this time around I feel that the judges are much meaner. Instead of talking behind their backs about the food, I noticed that they are giving the chef feedback as they eat the food in front of them. This week was actually their infamous restaurant wars episode, which always brings people down and sometimes the best of the best get cut on this round. So far the chefs this season are entertaining and seem like a good group, but honestly not some of the best I have seen. Some seasons have given us chefs like Richard Blais and the Voltaggio brothers, who really just blew everyone away, this round we have a few contenders, but no one that seems absolutely phenomenal. I do like Katsuji Tanabe so far, he is kooky and says weird stuff, I am sure he will be in the running for fan favorite this year. I love Tom Colicchio and his comments and Padma Lakshmi is so sexy and dresses on point and cute, I love seeing her outfits (gosh I am so superficial). Regardless, I am addicted to this crap, so yeah that’s my story and I am sticking to it.

Game of Thrones Book Series
I spent a lot of time catching up with my reading as I mentioned ealier; I really have been doing more reading than ever. I am now on book 4 of the Game of Thrones series and I can’t wait to be totally caught up when it starts next year.

Oh yeah, I will finally know all the deets and I have to say if you haven’t read these books, boy does the show do them justice. I felt just as emotional reading all the crazy stuff that happened in seasons 3 and 4, I felt like I was reliving that entire trauma. If you are in the mood for a new series and a fan of the show, then you should give this a shot, but you will have to commit to reading because it’s a lot of books!  I have to give a shout out to Zoe, who inspired me earlier in the year when I first started reading her blog to get back into enjoying books. I know she has done the same for Eric, so we must commend her for being so freakin’ inspirational (damn you Zoe now I have no life!).

Other shows I loved in November, but I feel I have already mentioned them are:
Homeland: Season 4 (Showtime)
AHS: Freak Show (FX)
Sons of Anarchy: Final Season (FX)

What To Watch This Fall TV Season

What To Watch This Fall TV Season

If you are like me, then you go through TV shows like worn out old tennis shoes. They need replacing every few months because seriously you wear them to death. That is pretty much me in a nutshell when it comes to watching TV. As soon as I finish a few shows, I need new ones to take their spot. I am always on the hunt for the latest and greatest,  yet I like to keep my faves in my back pocket. I know I can always go back to those and they will deliver a good watch. Lots of new shows premiered this fall season and if you need help trying to figure out what to watch, then I hope my guide will help you pick something that is worth your time. A lot of these have already started, but you can find many of them by going to the network’s site where you can still watch them.

Gotham: Season 1 (Fox)
If you are a fan of the DC Comics franchise and all the characters and super villains, then this one is just for you. The show is primarily about Detective James Gordon (Ben McKenzie) and a young Bruce Wayne aka Batman before he became the superhero that we all know and love. It also gives us the origin stories of such villains as the Penguin, Catwoman, Riddler, Joker, Poison Ivy and more. At the moment Penguin’s back story is one of the main highlighted stories, so just keep that in your back pocket.

As the title states it is primarily about the ins and outs of Gotham city and all the horrible things that are going on deep inside the city. One thing I really enjoy is that it has a comic book like feel to it, which is another reason why this show works. When one of the villains ties a weather balloon to a political figure, we see them go up in the air with a balloon, this really looked like it was taken straight from the comics. I am sure this will turn into a cult favorite and will have a strong presence at next year’s San Diego Comic Con.

Homeland: Season 4 (Showtime)
This show will only apply if you have seen the past seasons obviously, but this season is phenomenal. For me, Season 3 was decent, not great and there was something huge that happened in that season that in a sense looking back, it was actually a good move for the show. In Season 4, CIA agent Carrie Mathison (Claire Danes) is now working in Afghanistan as the station chief.  She sends drone strikes into an area where a Taliban leader was supposed to be living, meanwhile a wedding was taking place, this was not known to her and many civilians ended up getting killed. One family member who survived , the young college student Aayan Ibrahim (Suraj Sharma) posted the video on YouTube and from there all hell breaks loose. Another agent is killed and this sends everyone into upheaval, what goes on from here is fascinating.

For one I love that there are so many  new characters and actors on the show, one of my faves Corey Stoll is on this season and Sharma is a great addition as well. I also like how the story ties into what is going on right now in the Middle East and with our nation that is obsessed with social media. If you have some time, binge watch the first 3 seasons so you can catch up on this one, trust me you will not be disappointed.

Marry Me: Season 1  (NBC)
Are you looking for a new sitcom to watch? One that isn’t beyond corny and just plain awful. If so, then give Marry Me a chance, it stars Casey Wilson, who is one of my fave actresses from my beloved cancelled show Happy Endings and Ken Marino, who is just plain funny. He tends to play douche bag type of guys like he did in Party Down, Wanderlust, etc, but in this show he is totally not that type of guy. Together they are a newly engaged couple and are dealing with all the issues that come with a soon to be marriage, like moving in together, their families and friends and overall relationship stuff. The two of them together are funny and overall just silly and sweet. If you are in need of something to fill in the gap for your How I Met Your Mother withdrawal pangs, then this just might be the show.

The Goldbergs: Season 2 (ABC)
If you read my blog, then you know what a huge fan of The Goldbergs I am! Like our fabulous T9M, I also love anything and everything 80’s. I grew up in that time period, I was a little kid, so a lot of what is featured on the show is a very distant memory for me, but nonetheless I was there and I have the awful hideous childhood pics to prove it. If you want a family sitcom that is just plain funny, then The Goldbergs will not disappoint. I love this show because nothing is ever perfect, the dad Murray walks around in his underwear when he gets home and he calls the kids morons and the mother is like a typical overbearing momma bear who just loves her kids and still treats them like babies. Overall, a great show if you are in the mood for some laughs and nostalgic moments.

American Horror Story: Freak Show (FX)
I am a huge AHS and Ryan Murphy fan. Only he can do campy humor and drama in one show and make it work perfectly. The Freak Show season has been running for a few weeks now and it is awesome!! So far this is turning out to be my one of favorite seasons. I am literally freaked out and slightly grossed out with every episode. If you are interested in watching the past seasons, you could check those out and watch them in whatever order you like, since they are not connected to one another. I believe you can catch them on Netflix. For a quick recap of the past seasons in case your curious, the first one gave us a haunting tale of murder and mystery all within the confines of a family’s home, season 2 gave us serial killers mixed with a frightening look at insane asylum life, and season 3 brought us on a journey to New Orleans and a look into the secret world of sorcery and bitchcraft, I mean witchcraft. With season 4, he is taking us into a realm that inspires a lot of fears in people, circus life and scary clowns with a freak show twist.

What is going on deep beneath the surface of the circus tent is suspenseful drama within the performers, but more specifically with the ringleader Elsa Mars (Jessica Lange). The people who try to infultriate the freak show, Maggie Esmeralda (Emma Roberts) and Dandy Mott (Finn Wittrock), give the show an extra twist that make it worth watching. I have to say so far Dandy is my fave character. If you feel like having a good scare and like fun creepy drama a good amount of bitchiness mixed in, then this show will be perfect for you.

The Paradise: Season 2 (PBS: Masterpiece Theater)
The Paradise is strictly a show for people out there who like TV shows or movies with an air of romanticism to them. If you have Eric’s taste or you are anything like him or Brian or Mikey, then you will totally hate this show. I also highly recommend this for people who like period dramas. If you are a fan of Downton Abbey, an obsessed one like me, then you need something to get you through the next few months until it airs and this show works perfectly for that task. If you haven’t seen season 1 you can catch it on Netflix. The show is about a grand and beautiful department store in London, the shop’s owner Mr. Morey (Emun Elliott), who is extravagant and charming, shop girl Denise (Joanna Vanderham) and all the other people who work at the store and their rich clientele. I love seeing the sumptuous garments and ornate goods that are sold and the intricacies and details of the time period. There is always drama brewing behind the scenes of the store and I love watching it unfold. If you like corsets and romance, do check this one out.

untitled

A lot of times I am on Netflix and I have no idea what to watch, so if you are like me and you are stuck, here are my recommendations for some Netflix only shows.

Peaky Blinders: Season 1 (Netflix)
If you already miss HBO’s Boardwalk Empire, which just ended this year, then give Peaky Blinders a shot. This is basically a gangster type drama with some British grit mixed into it. The show is set in Birmingham, England in 1919, in the aftermath of World War I and the Peaky Blinders gang are notorious and ruthless. The boss of the crew is Tommy Shelby (Cillian Murphy) and they are mixed up in all sorts of arms deals and what not, but Chief Inspector Chester Campbell (Sam Neill) is on the hunt to catch them. He will use whatever means he can, even if it  means using female spies to infiltrate the gang. I am loving this show thus far and I absolutely adore all the guys who are super cute in their three piece suits. Word on the street is that Tom Hardy will be in Season 2. If anything that should be reason enough to get you to start watching this show.

Happy Valley: Season 1 (Netflix)
Another show that came out of nowhere is Happy Valley. A drama that was originally on BBC, about a Yorkshire police sergeant, Catherine Cawood (Sarah Lancashire) and the crimes that go on in her sleepy, usually quiet valley. Not only does the show have a crime aspect to it, what it really is about is the strong relationships she has with her family and close friends. Catherine is a no nonsense, hard working type of woman. With the death of her daughter, she has taken on custody  of her grandson. Her sister Clare, a former drug addict (Siobhan Finneran) helps her in the raising the little boy. What is really going on here is that the father of the boy is a hardened criminal and is involved in a kidnapping scheme.

Catherine knows he is up to no good and wants to keep him away from his son, but he goes behind her back to try to spend time with him. The whole kidnapping side story was suspenseful and fun to watch and it was a a really interesting twist that kept me on the edge of my seat. I really enjoyed this show because it has a different feel to it than most cop dramas that are out there and Lancashire does a really good job. One show it does remind me of though is The Killing, which I seriously miss! If you are in the mood for a British crime drama, than give this a try.

Homeland Recap: Season 3, Episode 8: Stress Cases

Homeland Recap
Season 3, Episode 8
HOMELAND (Season 3)
This week’s episode of “A red wheelbarrow,” showed us that a) Carrie really is pregnant b) Brody is still alive and c) Saul needs love.

Since I have been watching this show, Saul has always seemed distant and emotionless, but in this episode he seems to have gotten his mojo back. After admitting to the House Chief of Staff that he has sent Javadi back to Iran as asset, a coup for Americans, to which the Chief applauded him, he is relieved and happy that his plan worked. Mira realizes that she wants to be back with him and rekindle their marriage. He brings her breakfast in bed, everything seems great and then he tells her he has to leave for a quick trip.

She realizes he’s doing it again. Choosing his work and making it a priority over their marriage. Cue her back-up plan boy, Bernard, who slyly enters their home and we see that he is up to something when he tries to put a USB stick in the computer and replace their mouse. What is he up to and who is working for? Mira fell for this crap and now things are going to get real ugly.

Episode 308

Carrie finally goes to a doctor to get an ultra sound of the baby. She seems to be in total denial of the pregnancy and the doctor warns her that she must learn to stress less.

Is Carrie capable of not being a stress case? Come on now, that is what she does best.

She is hell bent on proving that Brody was not part of the terrorist plan at Langely. The group believes they have the man who drove the car, but Peter Franklin is there to literally shut him up with his silencer. Carrie is told to stand down, but she refuses and Quinn has to shoot her in the arm to get her to stop.

homeland-red-wheelbarrow-rupert-friend-600x399

Bleeding and in pain her stress level has definitely not abated.

Saul finally arrives at his destination, he gets out of the car and we see that he is in Venezuela. The man takes him to recover Brody, who is laying in what appears to be a stinky mess and used up needles. He looks like the broken down, POW Brody that we met in the first season.

Once he is back in the states how will he handle the news of being a father? How will the CIA handle that mess or take that? Is that even allowed and is there anything they can do about it? I was glad to see Brody back on screen, for a moment I thought they had kicked him off the show. Looking forward to see how this will play out for all involved and if Saul will finally get the happy ending he deserves.

Homeland Recap: Season 3, Episode 6: Leggo She’s Preggo

Homeland: Episode 6

aa1222

Since Season 3 of Homeland has started, I think we have seen Brody a handful of times on screen. Last night, I was praying, wishing, hoping, dreaming that he would come back to the fold and that we could see what the hell he has been up to in Venezuela. The episode with his Latin captors was the best one thus far, we saw the old Brody come out, the manipulating, theorizing, Muslim loving, shaved head captive style guy. After that he vanished into thin air and instead he has been replaced by Dana.

Last night’s episode aptly named, “Still Positive,” gave us a shocker, Carrie has been giving herself pregnancy tests, all which are positive and kept in a drawer like an OCD maniac. Very typical of her and I am guessing that the Baby Daddy is Brody.

Carrie, Saul and team move forward with the Javadi scheme. His henchman capture Carrie, take her to an undisclosed location and hook her up to a lie detector or “machine” as he calls it. Carrie flips the switch on Javadi and tells him about her plot with Saul and that he must come and meet with him, while holding the fact that she knows about the $45 million dollar embezzlement scam he ran up under an Iranian goalkeeper’s name. Instead of driving with him as planned, Carrie allows him to meet them at a local diner.

aa1212

When he fails to show up, they see that he has arrived at the nicely manicured home of his ex-wife. Who we now find out that Saul assisted in escaping from Iran in the 70s. Javadi knocks on the door and politely asks to come in, then commences to shoot Susan and stab his ex-wife with a broken bottle neck.

Saul is enraged and when he comes up close to Javadi after he is captured, punches him in the face. Finally, Saul shows emotion. A man so tightly wound and incapable of showing emotion, lets it out and it suits him well.

Ok back to Dana, she changes her name and takes her mom’s maiden name, Lazaro. I am tired of the “poor me” Dana story and hope that the show will go back to what it was known for, the relationship between a bipolar CIA agent and an American prisoner of war turned terrorist.

The grit and the drama that comes from their relationship is what kept me tuned in for so long. I hope that the show gets back on track and stops with the filler episodes. Here’s hoping for Venezuela. aa1111
