What To Watch This Fall TV Season

What To Watch This Fall TV Season

If you are like me, then you go through TV shows like worn out old tennis shoes. They need replacing every few months because seriously you wear them to death. That is pretty much me in a nutshell when it comes to watching TV. As soon as I finish a few shows, I need new ones to take their spot. I am always on the hunt for the latest and greatest,  yet I like to keep my faves in my back pocket. I know I can always go back to those and they will deliver a good watch. Lots of new shows premiered this fall season and if you need help trying to figure out what to watch, then I hope my guide will help you pick something that is worth your time. A lot of these have already started, but you can find many of them by going to the network’s site where you can still watch them.

Gotham: Season 1 (Fox)
If you are a fan of the DC Comics franchise and all the characters and super villains, then this one is just for you. The show is primarily about Detective James Gordon (Ben McKenzie) and a young Bruce Wayne aka Batman before he became the superhero that we all know and love. It also gives us the origin stories of such villains as the Penguin, Catwoman, Riddler, Joker, Poison Ivy and more. At the moment Penguin’s back story is one of the main highlighted stories, so just keep that in your back pocket.

As the title states it is primarily about the ins and outs of Gotham city and all the horrible things that are going on deep inside the city. One thing I really enjoy is that it has a comic book like feel to it, which is another reason why this show works. When one of the villains ties a weather balloon to a political figure, we see them go up in the air with a balloon, this really looked like it was taken straight from the comics. I am sure this will turn into a cult favorite and will have a strong presence at next year’s San Diego Comic Con.

Homeland: Season 4 (Showtime)
This show will only apply if you have seen the past seasons obviously, but this season is phenomenal. For me, Season 3 was decent, not great and there was something huge that happened in that season that in a sense looking back, it was actually a good move for the show. In Season 4, CIA agent Carrie Mathison (Claire Danes) is now working in Afghanistan as the station chief.  She sends drone strikes into an area where a Taliban leader was supposed to be living, meanwhile a wedding was taking place, this was not known to her and many civilians ended up getting killed. One family member who survived , the young college student Aayan Ibrahim (Suraj Sharma) posted the video on YouTube and from there all hell breaks loose. Another agent is killed and this sends everyone into upheaval, what goes on from here is fascinating.

For one I love that there are so many  new characters and actors on the show, one of my faves Corey Stoll is on this season and Sharma is a great addition as well. I also like how the story ties into what is going on right now in the Middle East and with our nation that is obsessed with social media. If you have some time, binge watch the first 3 seasons so you can catch up on this one, trust me you will not be disappointed.

Marry Me: Season 1  (NBC)
Are you looking for a new sitcom to watch? One that isn’t beyond corny and just plain awful. If so, then give Marry Me a chance, it stars Casey Wilson, who is one of my fave actresses from my beloved cancelled show Happy Endings and Ken Marino, who is just plain funny. He tends to play douche bag type of guys like he did in Party Down, Wanderlust, etc, but in this show he is totally not that type of guy. Together they are a newly engaged couple and are dealing with all the issues that come with a soon to be marriage, like moving in together, their families and friends and overall relationship stuff. The two of them together are funny and overall just silly and sweet. If you are in need of something to fill in the gap for your How I Met Your Mother withdrawal pangs, then this just might be the show.

The Goldbergs: Season 2 (ABC)
If you read my blog, then you know what a huge fan of The Goldbergs I am! Like our fabulous T9M, I also love anything and everything 80’s. I grew up in that time period, I was a little kid, so a lot of what is featured on the show is a very distant memory for me, but nonetheless I was there and I have the awful hideous childhood pics to prove it. If you want a family sitcom that is just plain funny, then The Goldbergs will not disappoint. I love this show because nothing is ever perfect, the dad Murray walks around in his underwear when he gets home and he calls the kids morons and the mother is like a typical overbearing momma bear who just loves her kids and still treats them like babies. Overall, a great show if you are in the mood for some laughs and nostalgic moments.

American Horror Story: Freak Show (FX)
I am a huge AHS and Ryan Murphy fan. Only he can do campy humor and drama in one show and make it work perfectly. The Freak Show season has been running for a few weeks now and it is awesome!! So far this is turning out to be my one of favorite seasons. I am literally freaked out and slightly grossed out with every episode. If you are interested in watching the past seasons, you could check those out and watch them in whatever order you like, since they are not connected to one another. I believe you can catch them on Netflix. For a quick recap of the past seasons in case your curious, the first one gave us a haunting tale of murder and mystery all within the confines of a family’s home, season 2 gave us serial killers mixed with a frightening look at insane asylum life, and season 3 brought us on a journey to New Orleans and a look into the secret world of sorcery and bitchcraft, I mean witchcraft. With season 4, he is taking us into a realm that inspires a lot of fears in people, circus life and scary clowns with a freak show twist.

What is going on deep beneath the surface of the circus tent is suspenseful drama within the performers, but more specifically with the ringleader Elsa Mars (Jessica Lange). The people who try to infultriate the freak show, Maggie Esmeralda (Emma Roberts) and Dandy Mott (Finn Wittrock), give the show an extra twist that make it worth watching. I have to say so far Dandy is my fave character. If you feel like having a good scare and like fun creepy drama a good amount of bitchiness mixed in, then this show will be perfect for you.

The Paradise: Season 2 (PBS: Masterpiece Theater)
The Paradise is strictly a show for people out there who like TV shows or movies with an air of romanticism to them. If you have Eric’s taste or you are anything like him or Brian or Mikey, then you will totally hate this show. I also highly recommend this for people who like period dramas. If you are a fan of Downton Abbey, an obsessed one like me, then you need something to get you through the next few months until it airs and this show works perfectly for that task. If you haven’t seen season 1 you can catch it on Netflix. The show is about a grand and beautiful department store in London, the shop’s owner Mr. Morey (Emun Elliott), who is extravagant and charming, shop girl Denise (Joanna Vanderham) and all the other people who work at the store and their rich clientele. I love seeing the sumptuous garments and ornate goods that are sold and the intricacies and details of the time period. There is always drama brewing behind the scenes of the store and I love watching it unfold. If you like corsets and romance, do check this one out.

A lot of times I am on Netflix and I have no idea what to watch, so if you are like me and you are stuck, here are my recommendations for some Netflix only shows.

Peaky Blinders: Season 1 (Netflix)
If you already miss HBO’s Boardwalk Empire, which just ended this year, then give Peaky Blinders a shot. This is basically a gangster type drama with some British grit mixed into it. The show is set in Birmingham, England in 1919, in the aftermath of World War I and the Peaky Blinders gang are notorious and ruthless. The boss of the crew is Tommy Shelby (Cillian Murphy) and they are mixed up in all sorts of arms deals and what not, but Chief Inspector Chester Campbell (Sam Neill) is on the hunt to catch them. He will use whatever means he can, even if it  means using female spies to infiltrate the gang. I am loving this show thus far and I absolutely adore all the guys who are super cute in their three piece suits. Word on the street is that Tom Hardy will be in Season 2. If anything that should be reason enough to get you to start watching this show.

Happy Valley: Season 1 (Netflix)
Another show that came out of nowhere is Happy Valley. A drama that was originally on BBC, about a Yorkshire police sergeant, Catherine Cawood (Sarah Lancashire) and the crimes that go on in her sleepy, usually quiet valley. Not only does the show have a crime aspect to it, what it really is about is the strong relationships she has with her family and close friends. Catherine is a no nonsense, hard working type of woman. With the death of her daughter, she has taken on custody  of her grandson. Her sister Clare, a former drug addict (Siobhan Finneran) helps her in the raising the little boy. What is really going on here is that the father of the boy is a hardened criminal and is involved in a kidnapping scheme.

Catherine knows he is up to no good and wants to keep him away from his son, but he goes behind her back to try to spend time with him. The whole kidnapping side story was suspenseful and fun to watch and it was a a really interesting twist that kept me on the edge of my seat. I really enjoyed this show because it has a different feel to it than most cop dramas that are out there and Lancashire does a really good job. One show it does remind me of though is The Killing, which I seriously miss! If you are in the mood for a British crime drama, than give this a try.

So which fall season shows have you been obsessing over or breaking up with, do tell?!

‘American Horror Story: Coven’ Recap Episode 12: Who is the baddest of them all?

American Horror Story: Coven
Episode 12
** Spoiler Alert

As I was saying in one of my last posts, I have been slacking on my reviews and recaps. I haven’t done a recap for AHS for the past two episodes, so to fill in the gap to yesterday’s episode, this is what has happened thus far. Think of it like that really fast recap they do on Glee at the beginning of the show.

Stevie Nicks did a cameo, Madison threw Misty in a coffin, Marie’s demon coke-snorting magic man Papa Legba has been coming to collect his debts for immortality, Fiona and Marie drowned Nan in the bathtub and managed to throw the Delphi group of witch hunters over the financial cliff and kill them off with the help of the Axeman. Cordelia cut out her eyes and did not regain her powers. Madame LaLaurie has reverted back to her old ways of killing and torturing people, ewww gross. Queenie came back from being shot in the face. Zoe and Kyle ran away to be lovers.

Phew…that was a lot, makes sense though because we are coming close to the end, next week is the season finale, so everything is opening up like a can of worms at the coven.

This week’s episode, “The Seven Wonders,” started out with a silent movie about the Salem witches performing the Seven Wonders test to see who is a real supreme. I liked how they captured the sensibility and idea of a silent picture, while demonstrating to the audience how each of the powers work. This definitely could have been worked in earlier in the season to give us an idea of what the witches are capable of doing.

In the last episode, Madame LaLaurie chopped up Marie Laveau, her voice is still heard, but there is no body. Queenie calls upon Papa Legba and has a little tea party with him to discuss the details and tells him she is now in breach of her contract with him. Since she cannot deliver a new soul next year, she will have to pay penance for her crimes.

She finds Madame LaLaurie and stabs her in the heart, apparently this is the way to kill an immortal soul. Papa shows Queenie that everyone has their own version of hell, Queenie’s was when she worked at the chicken shack and now Marie and Madame LaLaurie will be stuck together forever. They are banished to the time period when LaLaurie’s daughters were killed in front of her eyes by Marie. They both have to reenact that scene for the rest of their so-called lives in hell.

Zoe and Kyle return to help out the coven when Zoe realizes she cannot escape her fate and destiny as a witch.

Fiona gives Cordelia a necklace that belonged to her grandmother. With this necklace she can now foresee the future. She gets a glimpse of all the witches being killed by Fiona, who in turn then has her powers back and intends to run away. With these powers she is also able to find Misty. Who is then unearthed and comes back to the coven to kick Madison in her hot pants.

Cordelia pays the Axeman a visit and tells him of Fiona’s plan. When he realizes that Cordelia was right he kills Fiona and goes into the coven and is killed and stabbed to death by the witches. They definitely do not need a man to take care of them.

Now with Fiona gone, who is the next Supreme? Cordelia tells the girls that they will have to perform the Seven Wonders test to find out who will reign next. I cannot wait to see who will be the next super witch-bitch.

I have a feeling that it is Zoe, she has been sort of lingering in the background all season and it is time to see her shine. Who will it be?

AHS BUZZFEED – Check it out

Check out this BuzzFeed of AHS. So funny ! Here are the ones I thought were the best. Yeah I picked mostly all the funny, sexually charged ones. LOL.

1. Because Fiona Goode is a badass and puts other witches to shame.

2. And voodoo witch Queenie says whatever the hell is on her mind because she DGAF.

5. Madison Montgomery is a total bitch, but her unfiltered one-liners are a national treasure.

10. This girl Zoe can literally kill men with her vagina.

19. Madison is concerned with the important things in life.

American Horror Story Coven Recap: Season 3, Episode 9: Head, Shoulders, Knees and Eyes….

American Horror Story Coven
Episode 9
** Spoiler Alert
Last night’s episode, “Head,” was awesomely gruesome in every single way. We are getting closer than ever to the show’s finale and the coven is really starting to heat up even more.

I have to say one of the things that impresses me the most about this show are the camera angles. Distorted, slanted and viewed almost through a fish eye lens at some points, gives us the feel of a campy, B horror movie. I love it, to say the least!

This episode really brought everything to fruition and to light with Hank.

We now know that just as the coven has a long lineage of witches, the opposing witch hunters have been killing for centuries as well. Hank is part of that secret group and has been groomed by his father to be a destructive killer, who as he tells him should have “no mercy” for the withces.

09 - Head_0000846846

Despite the fact that he was embedded with the coven for so long, being married to Cordelia, he never had the guts to kill her because he really did love her. It appears that Hank also made a deal with the voodoo witch to kill the coven and Marie Laveau sends him a message through a horrifying voodoo doll scene.

Legs bent, twisted and contorted she plays Hank like a rag doll and tells him he must kill the coven or else he is next.

Although Cordelia and Fiona have had issues, she still respects her mother and knows that the coven needs the help of a Supreme in this dire time of hell with witch hunters out there ready to pounce.

Myrtle Snow is back for good now from the dead and out of the ashes like a phoenix has arisen stronger than ever. In an awesome, gruesome twist, she slips the counsel Pembroke and Quentin some paralyzing potion that makes them stiff as statues. She grabs a melon baller and scoops one of Pembroke’s eyes out and slips it in Cordelia.

09 - Head_0001072905

Later we see her cutting up the counsels’ bodies and dismembering them. Ewww gross!

Now Cordelia has some eyesight back, but has lost her power to see through people.

For a moment, I thought Cordelia could be the Supreme with that type of power, but we know that it can’t be her, it has to be one of the young girls. I don’t think it is Misty either, she does have the power of resurrection and Stevie Nicks behind her, but I don’t think she has that forceful, powerful energy that is needed and within a Supreme.

In a horrific turn, Hank decides to screw it all and goes after the Voodoo tribe of witches doing hair on the other side of town. Queenie was managing the phones, and was just coming off a high of showing Madame LaLaureie’s head about the ills of what occurred to African-American people since she was buried.

She shows her Roots and the violent riots of the 60’s, which only serves to juxtapose what is happening downstairs in the salon.

Hank comes in a blaze of glory and starts shooting everyone down. He manages to shoot Laveau, but of course she doesn’t die. Queenie in a final act of glory shoots herself in the head, which goes straight through Hank in a mirror fashion. Again, ewwwwwwww!

Laveau comes knocking on Fiona’s doorstep. The fact that she finally needs the Supreme’s help shows how catastrophic the Delphi Trust of witch killers is to the coven and the voodoo priestess.

Also, forgot to mention Fiona found Kyle and used her powers on him and brought him back to life, new and improved and better, plus its always nice to have a guy around a bunch of witch bitches, as Fiona puts it.

Will all the ladies finally be under one roof? A nation of witches against the world, now that sounds satisfying to me.

We have to wait until January 8th to find out what will happen next. The next episode is titled “The Magical Delights of Stevie Nicks,” is this going to be the episode where we finally see the rumored appearance of none other than Stevie Nicks herself? The Delphi Trust now knows that Hank is dead, what will they do next to our beloved girls? GASP! Let’s hope Fiona regains her strength and unleashes her powers or the new Supreme shows them how it is done.

American Horror Story Coven Recap: Season 3, Episode 6: Witch Up

American Horror Story Coven Recap
Season 3, Episode 6

OMG, last night’s episode, “The Axeman Cometh”, was so good. The show introduced the Axe Man as the title suggests, played by Danny Huston, I love this actor from Magic City and Hitchcock to name a few. He plays the part of a deranged, yet classy killer so well.

The serial killer was killed in 1919 by the witch coven for not playing jazz music as he instructed, they lure him and stab him to death. I really liked that scene with the witches bearing black cloaks, stabbing him, it reminded me of the movie Birds and Psycho all in one.

Cordelia comes home after the acid incident with a new found power. Her eyesight is gone, but her sense to see the truth has been heightened. One electrifying touch and she can see who a person really is in fits of flashbacks. As she says, “it’s a bad cosmic joke.”

We find out that her husband Hank is a witch hunter! Ok, we knew something was off with this guy, but now we know he has been secretly killing off the coven under the orders of the voodoo priestess.

Zoe accidently conjures up the spirit of the Axe Man through her Ouija board and ends up making a deal with him. He will help her find Madison in exchange for his freedom from the underworld. The board points to the words “attic,” where Madison has been kept locked away by Spalding. The only way to get the truth from him is to use Nan to read his mind. A man living in a house full of witches all his life, of course he knew how to throw them off and keep Fiona’s secret safe.

Meanwhile, in the swamps, Stevie Nicks, I mean Misty, tends to her soil and is working on bringing Myrtle back to life. I guess what you reap, is what you sow. Zoe enlists her help to bring Madison back using her Louisiana mud and some magic.

As they say in Clueless, “As if.” As if Madison could just be kept in that wooden box, dead forever! She comes back to life, asks for a cigarette and has no recollection of how she died, all she saw was black. Is this a sign that bad little witches go to hell, where there is no bright light?

The Ax Man is set free and he walks into Fiona’s bar. The same place where it seems bad things happens and emanate from. Will Fiona be found out to be the murdering bitch witch that she is? Will she finally get a taste of her own medicine via the Ax Man? Look forward to finding out next week.

Back to School for TV Shows

The fall season in TV land is like going back to school.

We see new fresh faces, think freshmen you either, love them, think Masters of Sex, Witches of East End or hate them, Sleepy Hollow, Hostages, and some are just going to get picked on, The Millers, Dracula.

123 12354

We also get to see our old pals we missed all summer, Top Chef, The Walking Dead and Glee.

The seniors prepare for their last year, think How I Met Your Mother and the sophomores and juniors, suppose Modern Family, American Horror Story, and New Girl keep chugging along through school and getting good grades.

All the mean kids come back to school too, The Real Housewives of Beverly Hills and Atlanta, yeah they come back to as much as we wish they would disappear. But high school wouldn’t be what it is without them. Like Tina Fey says in Mean Girls, “Raise your hand if you have ever been personally victimized by Regina George.” Hands fly up, yes we mean you, Kyle and Kenya!

Then there the kids that just won’t graduate like Mike and Molly and that Snooki and Jwoww show. They had their fun now get out of here!

Now we just have to figure out who we will sit with in the cafeteria. What shows would you sit with this season?

American Horror Story Coven Recap: Season 3, Episode 4: All Hallows Eve Bitches

American Horror Story: Coven; Episode 4

Deadly witches, voodoo queens, tranny butlers , zombies raising from the dead and a beasts’ head in a box, were the perfect combination for a Halloween night episode.  Last night’s episode, “Fearful Pranks Ensue,” showed us that Fiona may have killed Madison for nothing and another Supreme protégée is still out there.

The council comes down to pay a visit and question Fiona on the disappearance of Madison and her mentor Annalee. Led by council witch, Myrtle Snow, who believes she knows the truth about what happened.  Fiona lets her know that she is the HBIC or Head Bitch in Charge and that her silly accusations can’t stop her and her powers.

The voodoo priestess brought down the thunder for the death of her beast BFF. Calling up a spell for the zombies to come back from the dead like they did in 1961 and one suspicious hooded person to throw acid on Cordelia’s face.

I have so many questions!  I wonder what will happen with Madison? Will she come back from the dead? Will the voodoo priestess enchant up a resurrection spell and bring her back to life to reveal the truth? What about poor Kyle will he ever be put back together again and be normal? My spidey sense tells me no and that Zoe will eventually kill him with her powerful kitty cat. What about Cordelia’s husband Hank, is he the next bloody face? What the….

I love that the zombies came out from their graves in the end, it was so Walking Dead and right now I cannot get enough of those lovable, huggable zombies.

Let’s see what happens next week!
