The library has officially closed and the reunion episode of RuPaul’s Drag Race was off the chain. I love seeing the claws come out, the new looks they showcase, and seeing friendships develop in the unlikeliest places. I’ve come to a realization that Vanjie is one of the best RuPaul contestants ever, she stands out in a sea of super stars and I can’t wait to see what she does next. Even though there are a million new shows coming out ALL the time, I still consistently go back to old television show favorites or seek out classic ones I never got to see when they first came out. Many of these classic shows are SO worth re-watching or starting anew. They are especially good to watch because there is absolutely no pressure to keep up and they feel so nice and familiar that they can be comforting and calming to watch. Every Friday, I’ll be doing a #flashbackfriday with a rec for an old show for those moments or weeks when you need a good show to binge watch. I’ll start off with one of my favorites, Frasier! The show is endlessly funny, the writing is witty and stands the test of time, I still catch myself laughing out loud at episodes I’ve seen a million times, plus it has a great ending. Frasier and his brother Niles are so damn pretentious and narcissistic, yet still totally lovable. Catch it on Netflix, Amazon Prime, or Hulu. Now grab a glass of sherry 🍷 and go watch it. Shrill is the show you didn’t know you needed in your life. For some reason, the world aka other men and women, believe it’s okay to tell curvy women how to feel. Oh if you went on a diet you would feel so good 😊! Exercise is like so good for you, and make sure to skip crop tops and bathing suits while you’re at it 😒. In Hulu’s new original show, Annie conquers the body shamers, haters, and those guys who can’t even take a girl out on a date outside of their shitty bedroom. The show follows her journey to figuring out her voice and loving her body. It’s the show women need today, to know that whether you’re a size 2 or 24, you are worthy, society’s standards don’t define you, and don’t ever let your hip size determine your ability to succeed in life. Where was this show when I was 18?! Highly recommend. When a group of middle-aged women get together to reminisce and rebuild their friendship over lots and lots of wine, what ensues is drama, laughter, and a good amount of tears. Directed by and starring Amy Poelher, amongst other SNL heavy weights, Wine Country, is a funny and heartfelt comedy that will tug at your heartstrings, yet leave you completely unfulfilled. I loved the actresses in it and it had its funny moments, Tina Fey was hands down the best part, but it was lacking substance. With such a stellar cast, it could have been BEYOND funny and a must-see film. Instead, it’s a put it on while you scroll through Instagram kinda flick 🤷🏽‍♀️. Did you ever see the series finale of Six Feet Under? It was satisfying, realistic, and tied up everything with each single character. It is the barometer by which I judge all endings. Did Game of Thrones live up to it? HELL TO THE NO! Jon being a Targareyan was a huge freaking deal and it wasn’t even mentioned at the end. Excuse me? He killed Dany because everyone told him to, all the people who said he should be the rightful king didn’t even speak up for him or tell the world his true identity 😒. His bravery, his resiliency, was all to send him back to the wall? The white walkers died off, Cersei was killed with a brick, and now the world goes on? Arya became one of the faceless fighters and endured so much, for what? Dragons living in Westeros is a huge deal, let me emphasize HUGE, yet Drogon flew away and was never seen again 🙄. Everything that was supposed to be insurmountably difficult to kill or win over was defeated in minutes? This will go down as one of the worst endings in TV history. I’m still sad and devastated over Miss Vanjie not making it to the finale. How sad was that? 😭 I was really rooting for her, but maybe she’s been in her head too much and the pressure of the competition I am sure is a lot on them. Regardless, she is a star! Crown or no crown. I definitely can see her on the next All Star race. Our final four though are great ladies and all of them deserve to be in the top. The question is who is going to take the crown. I like them all for different reasons, but my vote is for Brooke Lynn Hytes. Although I really love Silky and Akeria too, I can’t decide!
