Mad Men Recap: Season 7, Episode 3: What Don Wants, He Sort Of Gets

Mad Men Recap
Season 7, Episode 3
**SPOILER ALERT

This week’s episode, “Field Trip,” illuminated for viewers whether or not Don Draper would return to work for SC&P. What Don did at the end of Season 6, when he admitted his life story to Hershey and basically told them that they did not need an ad campaign, and caused the firm to look at him differently. His erratic behavior partially caused by drinking too much was so unsettling, yes even to the other folks who drank almost as much, that he must take a leave of absence from the agency. The length of this leave has been unknown since the beginning and in this episode Don has finally lost hope of ever coming back. Despite this knowledge, he wants to work and he feels absolutely ready to get back in the swing of things, whether other people agree or not.

I am going to open up a Hershey kiss in memory of last Season and digest what happened this week. Maybe I should make it a gum drop?

Game of Thrones Recap: Season 4, Episode 4: The Mysteries of Westeros

Game of Thrones Recap
Season 4, Episode 4
**SPOILER ALERT

This week’s episode, “Oathkeeper,” finally revealed to us the answer concerning the biggest mystery in Westeros thus far, who killed Joffrey Baratheon? Thank you to my girls out there Sati, Anna and Abbi, who helped calm me down and assured me I would soon find out who killed him. Again, this week Game of Thrones never disappoints and I know everything that happened this week is going to lead into something even bigger that is going to occur, what it is, I don’t know, but that is the fun part of watching this show. And for those who read the books I am sure it is still just as exciting to watch it all play out.

Ok, let’s get started and chat about what we watched.

April Fools 2014: Snap Crackle Watch!

Hi Guys! I have been so sleep deprived and tired, so I apologize I am just posting this up. Plus my internet has been down almost all day, talk about a glorious Monday. The wonderful and sickeningly cool Cara over at Silver Screen Serenade hosted her April Fools Blogathon this month and here is my entry. Hope you guys enjoy!

Well, here it is, guys–the last guest list. *sniffle* So that’s the sad news. Here’s the great news: the hilarious Melissa from Snap Crackle Watch! is here to share that list. Have you been to Melissa’s site? She cracks me up with film reviews and TV recaps (particularly her Game of Thrones ones…pure gold). Be sure to follow her! Anywho, Melissa is here to share some of her favorite April Fools, so let’s check out her choices!

I do love a good list so here is my go at my top 5 TV fools.

1. Homer from The Simpsons
Remember that episode where… I mean really that is how you can start any conversation about Homer. That time he kept saying I am so smart, SMRT or when he got that bird toy to do his work at the factory. Homer is the epitome of a loveable fool. His sage advice transcends generations, I mean who doesn’t love Homer?!

2. Buster Bluth from Arrested Development
Tony Hale, well this man can play the hell out of the fool part for any show. As Buster he is attached to his mother and unlike his brothers and family he shies away from their nastiness and will do anything for his mom, basically he is her personal assistant. Shoulder rubs and getting tucked in at night, now that’s his type of fun. Close second is his character of Gary in Veep. Anything Selena wants or needs he has, he loves her unconditionally just like his mommy, see a trend here.

3. Balki Bartokomous from Perfect Strangers
He was the loveable foreign guy living in Chicago with his supposed American cousin. He was a total goof and got every American slang term wrong. He was literally the poster child for foolishness in the late 80s.

4. Kelly from Married with Children
She was the offspring of Al and Peggy need I say more. Kelly was a complete airhead, remember when she had to look at the name of the car she was trying to model for.. this is the new…. Allante. Glancing at her hand the whole time. She tried so hard though sometimes to be smart, poor Kelly.

5. Frank from It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia
Danny Devito plays Frank, the father of Dee and Dennis and the proprietor of the weirdest, seediest bar in Philly. The hijinks he gets himself and the gang into are hilarious and the way the Devito plays this character is genius. He has a certain lack of narcissism and is willing to take his character to any level. I have to admit he is probably my favorite on this list.

Movie Review: Nymphomaniac: Volumes 1 & 2 (2013)

Nymphomaniac: Volumes 1 & 2
Written and Directed by Lars Von Trier

tumblr_mwkb8e9kfo1rs3i49o1_500
The muscular tube leading from the external genitals to the cervix of the uterus in women and most female mammals, this is the definition of a vagina. In Lars Von Trier’s Nymphomaniac, a movie told in 2 separate volumes is the story of not only male and female anatomy, but about an intricate, almost scientific, yet poetic look at that act of sex itself.

When one thinks of sex, the words passion, love, arousal and pleasure come to mind, but what is displayed in this movie is none of the above or faintly if at all. Von Trier takes the topic of sex and puts his avant-garde twist on it. Taking away all inclinations of traditional movies, he implies an almost visceral, instinctual way of using the camera and telling his story.

There has been much consternation and commotion regarding the nature of this movie, many people believed that it was simply Von Trier gratuitously trying to satisfy his own need for telling a story full of nudity and sexual acts, but I believe there is much more to the story at hand than what has been represented outwardly in the movie and promotional material. His movie inspired provocation and enticed viewers into wanting to know what in the world this movie was all about and there are not many directors out there who can illicit that response nowadays. We live in a sex crazed culture and to get people writhing in their chairs at the sight or talk of sex is unseen.

Mad Men Recap: Season 7, Episode 2: It’s Just One of Those Days

Mad Men Recap
Season 7, Episode 2
**SPOILER ALERT

This week’s episode, “A Days Work,” focused around the holiday of Valentine’s day. Mad Men has done this in the past with Christmas and Thanksgiving and the like, I love that they intertwine a simple holiday into a storyline that is rich, complex and deeper than what it appears on the outside. Also, it is just one of those days at the office where every fire that can erupt does and putting it out is always a pain in the backside. Everyone has them, even the folks down at SC&P.

Now that we are almost entering the 70’s on the show, we are seeing a real shift as to what is happening in the work movement. Not only are women at this time starting to take on more demanding positions and roles, but African-Americans as well. Here with these two storylines we see the push and pull that is occurring, despite the changing landscapes in offices, there are still people who are set in their old ways and find both unsettling in prominent roles or positions as the face of the company. This changing dynamic and friction that is occurring between the new and old, is the underlying current of the entire episode itself.

Let’s do a quick and dirty little recap about what happened in this episode. Sit down and pour yourself a whiskey and make it neat.

Mad Men Recap: Season 7, Episode 1: The Beginning of the End

Mad Men Recap
Season7, Episode 1
**SPOILER ALERT

tumblr_n41o7mzBoM1tviv39o1_500

For me personally Mad Men is one of my absolute favorite shows of all time. I will also give that honor to Game of Thrones, Boardwalk Empire, Breaking Bad and Seinfeld. Every episode is exceptionally written and almost reads like a book. The stories told are deeper than what they appear on the surface and in a sense give us an insight into a life that would resonate with perhaps our grandfathers. The story is realistic and captures the essence of the era it portrays so well.

Similar to how the ending of Breaking Bad was presented; the final season for Mad Men will take 2 years to commence. This season we will only be given 7 episodes and next year it will all be said and done. Are you ready for the beginning of the end? Make yourself a Martini and relax into some good ol’ fashioned fun.
